#30dayglowup - Day 28
Do you want to turn heads after having a sudden, overnight glow up? Keep reading to find out how...
Whilst I think
that the glow up journey itself is a very long process involving learning and becoming
the best version of yourself you can be both physically and mentally, I also
understand that sometimes you just want a short-term fix. An overnight glow up,
or often for me a pre-night out glow-up, is a great way to boost your
confidence and make you view yourself more positively. After doing these tips I
always feel ready for a big event and well put-together.
So, if you’re
trying to invoke an overnight glow up and feel amazing about yourself the
following day, then just keep reading.
1. Exfoliate your skin
Any quality
skincare is going to do wonders to get your skin looking smooth, youthful and
glowy. But by far the most effective short-term solution I’ve seen is to use a
chemical exfoliant on your skin to clear up your pores, remove that layer of
dead skin cells and leave your skin looking healthy and dewy. My biggest product
recommendations by far is The Ordinary Peel Solution as raved about by pretty
much anyone who tries it – it’s a 10 minute exfoliating mask which you apply
once a week which effectively removes any gunk and debris from your pores and
you can see a difference even overnight. Perfect for if you’re wanting a quick
skincare fix!
2. Groom your eyebrows
I know I feel
10 x more confident when my eyebrows are looking how I want to, so grooming
them can make a huge difference to how I feel about my appearance. My at-home
eyebrow maintenance routine involves plucking the hairs that aren’t in line and
then trimming longer hairs with a sharp pair of scissors. It makes them so much
easier to work with when I fill them up, but also happier with how they look
when I leave them on their own.
3. Do overnight curls
Heatless
overnight curls are all over the place right now as people have figured out how
much healthier they are in the long-term for your hair than applying heat. Try
using a dressing gown belt and doing a rope braid around it in your hair and
then tying it up on your head as you sleep. You end up with beautiful, natural
looking curls and the best part is your hair doesn’t undergo any kind of hair
damage! I love overnight curls to give my hair that bit more shape when it’s
looking unruly as it’s great to get rid of frizz.
4. Heal any spots you have
Acne can be
very difficult to fully heal especially overnight, but I have a little trick
which I talk about here to fully get rid of any raised bumps and make them easy
to cover. As a mini summary, here’s my Tik Tok running through this very useful
method:
5. Shave your face
If you’ve
never shaved off your peach fuzz you’ve got a whole new world to explore in
terms of smoothing your skin texture. I love shaving my face and I do it regularly,
and I couldn’t feel like I could get ready for a big event without doing it! No,
it doesn’t grow back thicker or darker, and it doesn’t feel rough when it’s coming
back in. It just makes me so much more confident to know that none of my face,
including my upper lip, is hairy and it also makes makeup application a lot
easier. I use the very cheap facial razors that you can get from most
drugstores or online, and they work so effectively considering they’re so
cheap.
6. Whiten your teeth
Having whiter
teeth is an attractive trait on literally everyone, so by doing a safe, at home
whitening kit you can give yourself a quick confidence boost. Don’t overdo it
though – you don’t want to cause your teeth any unnecessary damage!
7. Fake tan (If you like the look)
I
personally love the appearance of being naturally tanned however I don’t like
the sun damage that comes with it. Fake tan can be done incredibly well, and I feel
a lot more confident with it than when I’m at my most pale. If you don’t want
to go full mouse/mitt combo, try just mixing a tanning oil like the Isle of
Paradise drops into your everyday moisturizer to give you a slight, bronzy glow.
8. Give yourself a manicure
Having put-together
nails makes your hands look incredible and you can use whatever fun colours you
want! I love painting my nails rose gold to match my piercing jewelry, it just
makes me feel a lot more coordinated and like all the little details I’m
wearing accent each other. Paint them whichever colour or design you like and
have fun with it!
9. Shave, exfoliate and moisturize your body
If you prefer
not having body hair, then making sure you fully remove it can have a bit impact
on your self-confidence. I use an epilating as part of my body hair removal
routine (which you can read about here) because I love the feeling of having smooth legs. Whenever
I’m wearing shorts or a skirt, I feel a lot better when my legs don’t have hair,
and by exfoliating and moisturizing my legs I love the shine they have.
Since I also
struggle with red bumps on the tops of my arms which can make me self-conscious
if I don’t take care of them properly, I also make sure to use a chemical
exfoliant to reduce the appearance of them. If this is an insecurity of yours, I
recommend trying out a product containing salicylic acid as an ingredient – I use
the Cerave smoothing cleanser and it works so quickly and effectively it would
be great as part of an overnight glow up routine.
10. Do affirmations
A huge part of glowing up is feeling confident and secure in yourself and your appearance. Using positive self-love affirmations is an incredible way to help to create a more positive perception of yourself – I have a full guide here, but if you’re just wanting some ideas here are some which can work effectively:
In conclusion
Whilst my
blog involves talking about the long-haul glow up in becoming a happier, more
confident person in myself and my headspace, I do sometimes feel the need for a
mini glow up for a quick self-esteem boost. If you follow these tips you’ll see
a noticeable difference the next day and everyone will wonder how you managed
it!
